Learning Collaborative members lead departments in assessing and making modifications as necessary to existing and emerging activities to ensure optimum student learning and development of essential skills.
Essential Skills Mapping
Members finished categorizing all experience types, which allowed us to begin an initial review of essential skills mapped across the division. This information will be added to the FY22 Planning Tool. Over the summer, the LC will do a deeper dive into experiences to understand to what extent essential skills are being learned intentionally.
Several updates were made to this tool since it was first created last year, including the removal of several columns and replacing others with questions that will provide more meaningful data. LC members were asked to work with their directors and other teammates to help complete the tool by July 16.
Plans for Summer
Over the summer, the LC will not be meeting regularly. Instead, 5 workshops were identified as continued learning opportunities for the LC. These workshops will also be open to anyone in the division. Topics include: the improvement cycle, assessment tools, how to write SLOs, curriculum mapping, and how to tell your story using data. In addition to attending these workshops, LC members (and colleagues as needed) will be meeting individually with Annie to work on the planning tool, departmental curriculum mapping, updates to Xitracs, and updates to job descriptions to incorporate work with the LC.
Other Discussion Topics
Leadership Transition
Welcomed Annie Carlson Welch, the new Assistant to the VP - Learning and Engagement. Annie will take over leadership of the collaborative and thanked Matt Waller for his guidance of the group over the past semester. To assist with the leadership transition, members shared what they've enjoyed about being part of the LC and what they hope to get from the experience as well. To assist with communication, all LC documentation was moved to a Google folder.
Essential Skills Mapping
Over the past month, LC members have been aligning Essential Skills to the experiences their departments oversee. This work was combined into one shared spreadsheet for the LC to review. The next step of the alignment process is to categorize each experience by type. This information will then be re-incorporated into a planning document which will be shared with all directors to update this summer. LC members were asked to complete this work by the next meeting.
The Learning Collaborative met for the first time on August 11, 2020. Learning Collaborative members learned about their responsibilities and work plan for 2020-2021. View the Learning Collaborative responsibilities and work plan here.
